The Calix BATMn reactor is a 500kW electric heater/reactor that is located approximately 60km northwest of Melbourne, VIC. OGP was engaged to carry out the electrical design of a new reactor. We also carried out the electrical and mechanical construction installation works of the new reactor, along with the design, supply and installation of a new switchroom integrating them into the existing plant.

Our in-house team was responsible for handling many tasks that contributed to the new reactor’s design and construction. This included:
Considering this was a pilot plant with a marginal business case and located on an existing brownfield site with limited and inaccurate existing documentation, OGP Group worked closely with Calix to address their budgetary concerns. We conducted a thorough survey of the reactor site, identifying potential electrical tie-in points and verifying through calculations that there would be sufficient electrical capacity. Additionally, we designed a cost-effective switchroom using a standard 20ft high cube (HC) container to house 18 Thyristor controllers and the main switchboard, complete with insulation and air conditioning to maintain appropriate temperature for the infrastructure.
