Project Background

Beach Energy aimed to electrify its Lang Lang Gas Plant (LLGP) to transition from gas-powered generators to a more sustainable, reliable electricity-based system. This project was crucial for reducing operational costs and aligning with Beach Energy’s sustainability goals.

The LLGP Electrification project faced significant challenges, particularly during the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) phase. The initial solutions proposed were unworkable, necessitating a realignment of the project. Additionally, securing a reliable connection to AusNet LLG13 feeder required navigating complex technical and contractual processes, risking delays.

OGP Approach

OGP’s team played a definitive role in managing the project back on track by providing the following services:

  • FEED Realignment:
    • Project Management: We intervened early in the FEED phase and supported Beach with resource planning and management. This included engaging AusNet-recommended vendors and securing the right resources to deliver a viable, cost-effective solution.
    • Contracts and Procurement: OGP assisted in drafting and securing contracts, ensuring alignment and resource availability.
  • Connection Application:
    • We supported Beach Energy in securing AusNet’s agreement to proceed with the connection application by ensuring all technical requirements were met.
  • Parallel Processing:
    • To avoid delays, we initiated contract discussions in parallel with AusNet’s survey, aiming to finalise the agreement as soon as the survey was complete.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • We facilitated high-level discussions with AusNet’s senior executives, maintaining project momentum and priority.
  • Risk Management:
    • We helped incorporate contingencies into the budget, providing a buffer against unforeseen connection costs and securing the project’s financial health.

The Outcome

OGP’s strategic project management and stakeholder engagement were crucial in the successful execution of the Lang Lang Gas Plant Electrification project, helping Beach Energy achieve its sustainability and cost-efficiency goals. Our involvement during FEED secured a viable solution and set the project up for success. Parallel processing of Ts & Cs with the survey minimised potential delays and Built-in contingencies ensured readiness for any cost variations.
